Such rarities seem to always turn up whilst I am away. This time Tony Blake discovered a SPOTTED SANDPIPER at Hilfield Park Reservoir on Sunday morning (24 June). The bird was a first-summer and interestingly almost certainly the same bird seen at Scaling Dam Reservoir in Cleveland less than a week before. It was highly mobile and seen just briefly and present for just over an hour - perhaps 3 or 4 birders connecting (including Derek Turner and Ian Bennell).
Interestingly, the previous county record was at Hilfield - an adult on 2nd September 1956
