HAWFINCHES in Whippendell Woods

Andrew Moon discovered a flock of at least 8 HAWFINCHES in Whippendell Woods this morning, frequenting the trees in the vicinity of the car park from about 0700-0830 hours. This is an old haunt of the species in the days that they were a fairly common sight in the county but the first there in over 25 years. They were at The Grobe Mill Lane car park at TQ 080 983.

Graham White has also seen HAWFINCHES in Hertfordshire recently with up to 5 in Benstead Woods, Broxbourne, at the weekend.

Otherwise, pretty quiet in the county, with a PINK-FOOTED GOOSE still at Wilstone Reservoir and these 10 BLACK-NECKED GREBES at Hilfield Park Reservoir........
